Dr. Martha Bidez founded and incubated Alabama’s first biomedical implant company, BioHorizons, Inc., within BioEchoes. The BioHorizons story demonstrates the systems engineering and expertise of BioEchoes to:
- Lead a multi-million dollar project through concept development, system design and integration, testing and evaluation, policy and regulatory development and review, and commercialization.

The BioHorizons Story
Alabama’s first biomedical implant company, BioHorizons, Inc., was spun out from BioEchoes as a separate, investor-financed entity in 1996. Dr. Bidez was CEO for the company’s first five years and remained Chair of the Board of Directors from the company’s inception to its ultimate sale to HealthPoint Capital, a research-based private equity firm, in 2006. Annual revenue now exceeds $170 million with subsidiaries in Australia, Canada, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
