Government Worker Satisfaction Consistently Lags Private Sector
The government consistently lags behind the private sector in key measures of worker satisfaction, including their superiors’ leadership skills and willingness to support employee continuing education and career advancement.
In May 2009, the Partnership for Public Service reported the results of their most recent annual survey of approximately 212,000 employees at 260 departments, agencies, and offices. Among the 30 largest federal agencies, the highest mark for overall job satisfaction was a B- (80.7/100) at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the lowest was an F (52.2/100) at the Department of Transportation. In fact, only 4 agencies scored above 70%. The scores of approximately 25% of the agencies either remained the same or worsened compared to the previous year. Clearly, government workers do not feel empowered to either maximize their own agency’s performance or their own professional development.
Without empowered workers, the government cannot be the innovative force for change that our world needs. BioEchoes’ leadership and motivational workshops enable government agencies to improve worker satisfaction.
